THE LAGUNA PLAYHOUSE APPOINTS
CHRISTOPHER TRELA AS THE NEW DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS
FEBRUARY 1, 2007 - LAGUNA BEACH, CALIFORNIA – The Laguna Playhouse has appointed Christopher Trela to the position of Director of Communications, following a national search.
The Director of Communications is a new position created as part of the strategic integration of marketing, development and communications led by Greg Patterson, Senior Director, Development/Marketing and Communications and this position will be charged with building widespread awareness and understanding of the existence, mission and programming philosophy of the Playhouse in order to attract new audiences, while at the same time cultivating a deeper engagement with our existing audiences in order to illuminate clearly the value of its creative aesthetic. This position is being funded through a grant from The James Irvine Foundation.
Trela is a well-known Orange County journalist and publicist. He comes to the position from the Balboa Performing Arts Theatre in Newport Beach, California, where he has served as Director of Marketing & Development since September 2004. Prior to that, he served as Director of Public Relations & Publications for the Pacific Symphony from 2001 to 2005, and Public Relations & Marketing Manager at the Discovery Science Center from 1999 to 2001.
Playhouse Executive Director Richard Stein said, “It’s very gratifying when you conduct a national search for a senior staff position and determine that the candidate who stands out above the rest is someone local, someone you already know and admire, someone whose work you respect and is respected by so many others. We’re delighted to have Chris join our marketing and development staff and look forward to having him lead our theatre’s new communications initiatives.”
