TheatreReach is a touring program of The Laguna Playhouse that brings professional productions into area schools. The plays are one-hour stage adaptations of books included in the K-6 literature and history school curriculum. The content is similar to G-rated films.

Teachers are provided with study guides in advance and post-performance question and answer sessions further enrich the educational value of the visit. Related student and teacher workshops may also be booked.

TheatreReach productions are typically toured in pairs, two during the fall for about eight weeks and a different two for a longer period in the winter/spring — usually about 12 weeks. Each week, as many as nine performances are offered in elementary and middle schools, primarily in Orange County but also in Los Angeles, San Diego and Riverside Counties. A single company of actors performs each set of two alternating plays for an annual total of as many as 150 shows.

We are on of the few companies in the region that offers a curriculum-based professional theatre-touring program. Our TheatreReach program runs at full capacity. Tours are often over-subscribed, creating a waiting list for schools requesting performances.

	November 17 - December 12 : ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS By Scott O'Dell Adapted for the stage by Donna Inglima Original music by Scott Lindsay Directed by Donna Inglima In the early 1880's off the coast of California on san Nichols Island, a native-American gir survived alon for 18 years. Karana had to fight off a fierce pack of wild dogs and guard against the Aleutian sea otter hunters who had killed off most of her family. THEATREREACH brings Karana's haunting story to life with music, movement, masks and storytelling.
	May 11 - June 5 : BY THE GREAT HORN SPOON! From the book by Sid Fleischman Adapted for the stage by Donna Inglima and Joe Lauderdale Music and lyrics by Mark Turnbull Directed by Donna Inglima On the curriculum of most 4th or 5th grades. The year is 1849 and the California Gold Rush is surging forward. Together with his fearless butler, Praiseworthy, young Jack Flagg sets out to save his Aunt Arabella’s fortune. The two stow away on a ship bound from Boston to the California gold fields and the wild, swashbuckling adventure begins! The play dovetailed perfectly into the students’ studies about California and the Gold Rush period.
